An experienced and accomplished professional independent trustee, Tom excels in navigating through complex situations and building strong relationships with trustee boards, sponsors, and advisers. Tom has extensive experience in considering and setting strategy for both under-funded and well-funded schemes and implementing scheme strategy, journey planning, risk transfer and alternative funding solutions. Formally a finance lawyer and partner at an international law firm, Tom has been successful at adding value to his schemes by drawing on his experience in structuring and completing complex projects and transactions. Notably, he led the trustee board of the Debenhams Retirement Scheme through its well-publicised new and innovative transaction with the UK’s first superfund – applying his legal and commercial acumen, pragmatic problem solving approach and ability to anticipate and manage issues early and avoiding surprises.

Tom strongly believes that collaboration between stakeholders is essential to achieving objectives by helping to facilitate smooth working relationships, even in the most highly pressurised and time sensitive situations.
